Birthdays are such a special time for children, and I want to make sure that each child in the classroom is equally celebrated, and that all students in the classroom can full participate in these celebrations regardless of food sensitivities or allergies. I also want to ensure that students are receiving the nutrition they need to learn and aren’t consuming too many additional treats throughout each month.
This year our class will celebrate birthdays monthly. I am asking that the parents of students who have birthdays in the same month, coordinate to bring or send in a small treat to lunch on the scheduled day for each month’s birthday celebrations. If four students share a birthday month, then parents may decide on mini-cupcakes, juice boxes, plates/napkins, and a take home goodie bag.
Treats will be given out at the end of lunch and lunch will be extended by ten minutes on celebration days. Two weeks before each month’s birthday celebration, I will send out an email to all parents who have a child celebrating their birthday that month. You will “reply all” with what you plan to contribute. If you would rather not participate, that’s okay too. In that case you can reply to me personally. I ask that items being sent in be individually portioned (i.e. mini cupcakes instead of a birthday cake) and items MUST be store bought. Parents of children with food allergies will be given the date of the celebration, so they can send a safe alternative.
We will celebrate students individually in the classroom with a birthday goodie bag and by singing happy birthday (second grade style!). On the back of this sheet I have listed the dates for birthday celebrations throughout the year. I will send out notice if these dates change due to other school events.
